Balanced Coverage
Ensuring Balanced Coverage
At northlandelections2025.co.nz, our goal is to provide fair, accessible, and non-partisan information to help Northland voters—especially those in the disability community—make informed decisions in the 2025 local elections.
Our Principles
1. Equal Opportunity for All Candidates
-
Identical Questions: Every candidate receives the same questionnaire, focused on disability access, inclusion, and local issues.
-
Equal Deadlines: All candidates have the same timeframe to respond.
-
No Editorial Bias: Responses are published verbatim (with minor edits only for grammar/clarity, clearly noted).
2. Transparency About Participation
-
If a candidate declines to respond or misses the deadline, we’ll note:
"[Candidate Name] did not submit a response by [deadline]." -
We’ll never alter the order of candidates (e.g., alphabetical/by ward) to avoid perceived favoritism.
3. Disability-Centered, Not Party-Centered
-
We prioritise issues over politics, focusing on topics like:
-
Accessible public transport
-
Disability employment initiatives
-
Voting accessibility
-
-
Candidates’ party affiliations (if any) will be listed neutrally.
4. Accessibility in Presentation
-
All responses will be published in screen-reader-friendly formats with proper headings, alt text for images, and plain language.
-
Voters may request alternative formats (e.g., large print) by contacting us.
How We Address Challenges
❌ "But what if a candidate gives an offensive or inaccurate answer?"
-
We’ll publish responses as-is but may add a factual note (e.g., "The Ministry of Disabled People reports [correct statistic]…") if needed.
❌ "What if only some candidates respond?"
-
We’ll proactively follow up but won’t extend deadlines unfairly. Non-responses are still valuable information for voters.
Our Accountability
If you believe we’ve failed to meet these standards, please contact us at [email]. We’ll review concerns promptly and correct errors where verified.
